Tai Chi: The Natural State

It is said that we are in a ‘Natural State’ when we feel happy and in harmony with the universe. But how do we achieve that?

In Tai Chi, the Natural State refers to a relaxed, balanced, and unforced condition of both body and mind. It embodies effortless movement, proper (relaxed) posture, and deep awareness, allowing energy to flow freely. Mentally, the Natural State is a calm, present, and uncontrived awareness. It involves letting go of tension, expectations, and distractions, allowing thoughts to flow without attachment. This state cultivates mindfulness, clarity, and emotional balance, fostering a deep connection between mind and body, leading to inner peace and effortless action.

A Natural State fosters harmony, spontaneity, and connection with nature, enhancing physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

From this perspective, we can understand that learning and remembering a Form is not the only goal in Tai Chi practice. If we feel relaxed, move effortlessly, and remain calm and focussed, we are embodying Tai Chi principles of softness and flow. The Form serves as a platform for practicing and deepening our Natural State.
