Enquiries: Email info@risingmoontaichi.net to discuss if this course will meet your needs as a potential tai chi instructor.

General Information: Open to Tai Chi practitioners who would like to learn how to teach this beautiful form of standing meditation and exercise, personal trainers or group exercise instructors.  The course is also suitable for practitioners wanting to enhance their own tai chi skills. This course focusses on the foundations of tai chi, laying the groundwork of understanding the principles and benefits of this beautiful form of exercise.

This course will introduce you to tai chi and qigong principles and  theory.  You will learn four qigong exercises and common tai chi postures including Part the Wild Horse’s Mane, Brush Knee, Cloud Hands and Golden Rooster Crows in the Morning. You will explore different methods of teaching these to a small group of beginner tai chi students.

An effective tai chi instructor, can change people’s lives, through inspiring, educating and opening a student’s mind to the holistic benefits of tai chi.  The instructor gradually builds upon knowledge and skill level, developing an extensive background in practical tai chi training, a knowledge of its history, its benefits, its forms and its techniques. Practising and instructing tai chi is a lifetime of study which should encourage a teaching pedagogy of enquiry, reflection and connectedness that builds gradually, layer upon layer.  It is a continuous and enjoyable pursuit of  cultivating energy, stillness and balance.

The Foundation course is heavily weighted towards learning the principles of tai chi movement, rather than learning a Form.  Teaching methods such as mirror image, cueing and managing individuals within a group are an intrinsic part of any group exercise programme and as such, are included in this course.

This course is designed to be the beginning of your journey into teaching tai chi and it is hoped that at its conclusion you will continue this journey through practising, extensive reading and thorough research so you are well equipped to teach tai chi and progress to other tai chi forms and styles.

Course requirements include:

  • 9 online, real time meetings with the course facilitator

  • Submission of 6 videos for appraisal and assessment

  • Logbook of your practice, readings, and attendance in tai chi classes

  • 3 written assessments (open book)
