The Rising Moon Name

Referring to Yin and Yang, the moon (Yin) is female, from the earth, rising to fuse with opposing forces to create energy and fullness. Within the logo, we see the fluidity of the Koi fish representing continuous change and adaptation.  The circular pattern, based on Yin and Yang show that all things in life are connected.  The black fish represents the overcoming of obstacles, strong in battle, and strength through hardship.  The red fish symbolizes the love a mother has for her family.  Strong, steadfast, and brave.

The Rising Moon Logo

In Chinese mythology, the koi fish is much more than a symbol of beauty and grace—it represents determination, perseverance, and the transformative power of effort.

According to legend, schools of golden koi swam up the Yellow River in China, battling strong currents and leaping through waterfalls. After traveling for hundreds of years, they reached a great waterfall at the end of the river. Many of the koi gave up, letting the flow carry them back downstream. But one determined koi continued the struggle, leaping again and again, refusing to surrender to the crashing waters.

The gods took notice of this small fish’s courage and endurance. As a reward for its persistence, they transformed the koi into a magnificent golden dragon—a symbol of power and wisdom in Chinese culture. From that day on, the koi came to represent not only perseverance, but also the ability to rise above challenges and achieve greatness.

This legend is often used as a metaphor for personal growth, especially in practices like Tai Chi. Just as the koi swims upstream against the current, practitioners of Tai Chi learn to move with intention, face inner and outer obstacles, and transform through discipline and patience.

At Rising Moon Tai Chi School, the koi in our logo reminds us that transformation is always possible—no matter the struggle, no matter how strong the current. Like the koi becoming the dragon, we rise through dedication, guided by balance, harmony, and the flow of qi.

The Rising Moon Tai Chi Community

At Rising Moon Tai Chi School, we believe that Tai Chi and Qigong are more than just forms of movement—they are a way to nurture balance, mindfulness, and wellbeing in every aspect of life. Since our founding in 2015, we have grown into a vibrant community where students of all ages and abilities can explore these ancient arts in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do. Respect, patience, and encouragement form the foundation of our teaching philosophy. We honor the unique journey of each student, fostering a culture where learning is collaborative, curiosity is celebrated, and progress is recognized—no matter how small it may seem. Kindness and integrity guide our interactions, creating a space where everyone feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow.

Engagement at Rising Moon Tai Chi is not just about showing up to class. Our students actively participate in a variety of ways: from learning and practicing traditional forms like Beijing 24 and 42 Form, to experiencing the meditative qualities of Qigong, to joining group demonstrations at our Festivals and community events. Classes are designed to be inclusive, offering guidance for beginners while challenging more advanced practitioners. This ensures that every student can progress at their own pace while enjoying the shared energy of a group practice. Social connection is also encouraged through informal gatherings and group activities, fostering friendships that often extend beyond the studio.

Joining Rising Moon Tai Chi is a choice to invest in yourself—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Students experience improved flexibility, strength, balance, and posture, while also cultivating focus, calm, and resilience in everyday life. For those seeking a sense of community, our school provides a warm and supportive environment where lifelong friendships flourish.
